I have a story, but I'm not great at writing. Does that matter? There is a writer in us all. Although yourstoryvault is not about being a brilliant writer, we welcome submissions from everyone, including those with writing backgrounds and those for whom this will be a new way of expressing themselves. Yourstoryvault is about sharing real life, so the key is to be as authentic as possible. Writing is a great way of dealing with life's challenges, so take a stab at it and you may find you really enjoy it and want to keep submitting.
How long should it be? Length as we know is not everything. Submissions to date have been between 400 and 14oo words. This seems to work well for yourstoryvault readers. Longer than that can be hard to fit in, and shorter can leave one wanting more...
What will you do with the story I send? Thoroughly enjoy reading them! The foundation of yourstoryvault is being real. If you send your story to us we will consider it a privilege and will respect your anonymity first and foremost. You will be part of an inspirational project that hinges on sharing real stories with other women. Our ultimate aim is to publish this and your story may be one of the ones we use. But it will be our secret and yours! If you want to add contact info in case we have questions, please do so.
How much will you edit my piece? Just write whatever comes to you. Don't worry about getting it perfect. We're not all writers but we all have a story and we will make sure the periods are in place, as they say.
Can you help me write my story? If you would like help either getting started, or reviewing your piece just contact us at email@example.com. We can do telephone interviews and write the piece on your behalf which you would get to review prior to posting.
How safe is the vault? Rock solid baby -- just the way we like it!
The foundation of yourstoryvault is to provide a safe place for us all to post and comment on real life events and experiences. That said, when you contribute your piece, we ask you to do so after thoroughly reviewing it for identifiables because yourstoryvault is a public site. Some of our writers will want public ownership while many will prefer anonymity. We offer the PO box as an alternative method of submission. If you use email, we can develop your piece with you if you'd like, but be assured keeping your confidence and trust is our top priority.
Should I change the names in my story? You should write whatever feels comfortable. If the gardener has a really unusual name then call him Steve.
How do I post a story? Use either email or snail mail. In submitting a story you are acknowleging that you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions listed here on the site, so be sure to read them.
